Tamworth Regional Council manager sports and recreation Paul Kelly said council is working with the local BMX club to develop and "effective and affordable plan" for removing non-friable asbestos from the North Tamworth track.
"We are seeking advice from specialist contractors and council's construction staff to plan how to best clean up the site," he said.
Mr Kelly told the Leader it is "not a simple process" to come up with such a plan.

He said it is likely there will be a report detailing options for fixing the track for Tamworth councillors to consider at the ordinary meeting in May.
"These works could include removal and disposing of contaminated soil or the capping of the existing site with clean fill and then sealing," Mr Kelly previously told the Leader.
The contamination was first discovered on March 4, when contractors noticed asbestos fragments on the Marius Street BMX track.
The site has been fenced off and closed to the public since then.
About a month ago, a council report revealed extensive testing at the site showed the levels of asbestos were low and did not pose a health risk to the public.
Council said the contamination was caused by soil and building waste brought to the site more than 30 years ago when the BMX track was under construction.
Mr Kelly said Tamworth council will work towards ensuring the track will be a facility the Tamworth City BMX Club can use for state-level competition events.
