Tamworth veterans cricket has abandon this year's State of Origin against Queensland. The annual event had been set to be held in Tamworth next month.

"We can report that next year's series will be held in Tamworth at the end of March," said Greg Kellett, Tamworth vets cricket spokesman. "All the work our volunteers have done will now be used for next year."
Tamworth hopes to compete at over-60 state championships, slated to be held in Tamworth in October.

The over-60 national championships are due to be played on the Sunshine Coast in September, with the city also slated to host the over-60 World Cup.
On a brighter note,Tamworth's over-50 cricket team are the inaugural winners of the Doug Walters Cup (northern conference).
Teams from the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Mid North Coast, New England and Tamworth competed for this prestigious trophy.
Tamworth were undefeated in the four games, with three other matches washed out.
The team was well led by Steve Wilson, with some new faces getting a start.
