Tamworth Regional Council entertainment venues manager Peter Ross said the health of the general public and people involved in producing events comes "first and foremost".
Council is working with groups and tour companies to try and get the packed program of productions planned for the Capitol Theatre rescheduled until the pandemic is over, he said.

It's disappointing on many levels but it's very important that we do this to stem the pandemic and we are absolutely doing our part.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Wednesday that indoor, non-essential gatherings of more than 100 people should be cancelled.
The Capitol Theatre has a seating capacity of 400, so the show must not go on.
"It's disappointing on many levels, but it's very important that we do this to stem the pandemic and we are absolutely doing our part," Mr Ross said.
Providing the cast and crew remain under 100 people, local groups will still be able to gather and rehearse, he said.
A bunch of performances were expected at the theatre in the coming months including X-Factor star Taylor Henderson, a production of Sleeping Beauty and the Moscow ballet.
The advice has caused cancellations and postponements at three other council venues - TRECC, the town hall and the Tamworth Community Centre.
Mr Ross said new dates for postponed productions and performances will be released as soon as possible.
Ticket holders will be contacted about their options.
Up to date information can be found on council's entertainment website and the theatre's box office will be open for enquiries.
