Services club general manger Doug Meagher said the Northern Inland Academy of Sport had nominated the club for the award.
"Our club has been supporting NIAS for the last 12 years and is a passionate contributor to their Loanstar Athletes Program," Meagher said.
"It was really humbling for those guys to nominate us because I think we would have been one of the few clubs that didn't self nominate.
"Our club loves to support local sport and for us to be honoured like this is really special."
The club is actively involved in not only the NIAS program, but with several local clubs including the Gunnedah Rugby Club and the Gunnedah Rugby League Football Club.
"To win something like this is just awesome," Meagher said.
"For our club to be honoured in front of a room full of our peers, at an award ceremony is really special.
"This is a very prestigious award and for a country club like ours to share it with a major metropolitan-based club is a big effort."
As well as leading the club as its general manager, Meagher is also actively involved in the Gunnedah sporting scene as both the head coach of the Gunnedah Bulldogs AFL team and as a mentor of Mornington's second-grade cricket team.
"I feel as though I'm a bit indebted to all of the guys who helped through my junior sporting days," Meagher said.
"In my younger years I had a lot of people help me out and now at 60 years old, I feel like it's my turn to give back."
Meagher said the club would continue to support local support in the future.
"If anything I think our club's support of local sport is only going to grow," he said.
"Sport is so important to our community and we will be doing all we can to help support it in the years to come."
