David George Thompson will face Judge Jeffery McLennan in Tamworth District Court, after he pleaded guilty to one count of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
The 42-year-old entered the Caltex Service Station on Marius Street armed with a knife at about 3:30am on January 13.
Thompson threatened the employee behind the counter with the knife, and demanded a packet of cigarettes and an iced coffee milk drink.
Minutes later Oxley Police District officers used CCTV footage from the scene to track down Thompson to the Gipps Street fields.

He was arrested and taken into custody, where he has remained for the last nine months.
The maximum penalty for this offence is 25 years in prison.
