The 33 year old suffered a suspected heart attack in the change rooms after playing a trial match for the Armidale Rams in Dorrigo a fortnight ago, and was unable to be revived.
Tragically Davis left behind a partner and four children under the age of ten, which is why former teammate Jay Cohen organised a family fundraiser touch football carnival and R&B night in Inverell on Saturday.
"Leroy was a quiet bloke and a quiet achiever who loved nothing more than football and his family," he said.
"He loved being around his kids at the footy, and was a good mate."

Davis played for the Rams, Inverell Hawks, Narwan Eels and Tingha Tigers during his many years in Group 19, with all of those clubs entering teams on Saturday.
"We have had lots of enquiries and registrations," Cohen said.
"Armidale and Narwan have put two in each, Leroy's family have put a couple of teams in, all the local clubs, plus we have sides from Tamworth, Tabulum, Grafton and Moree."
The winning side of the day will take home $500 in prize money, with the rest of the money going straight to Davis' family.
The day will also include raffles, food and entertainment, with Cohen also hosting an R&B night at the Imperial Hotel on Saturday night.
"You don't have to be playing to get involved - it is just going to be a good day out for everyone," Cohen said.
"We want people to come down and have a chat and a laugh - share stories about spending time with Leroy."
First game kicks off at 9.30am at the Inverell Sporting Complex.
