After taking out the 2018 running where Itzgeorgiaonmymind had a 40m winning margin over Ruth Shannon, trained by Peter Bullock and driven by McKayler Barnes, this year’s running had a similar result.
The 2019 running saw Itzgeorgiaonmymind have a 5m win over Peggy Sue Shannon, once again trained by Peter Bullock, with the race named in honour of Peter’s late wife, and driven by McKayler Barnes.
Starting as $1.09 favourite, Itzgeorgiaonmymind had an all-the-way win with a mile rate of 1.59.2 for 1980m and a 5.7m win over Peggy Sue Shannon (McKayler Barnes), Myanga Sportsgirl (Stacey Weidemann) another metre away in third.
Itzgeorgiaonmymind has only had six race starts for four wins - all on the Tamworth Paceway - which included taking out the 2018 Starmaker Final as a three-year-old. The mare's only placing was a second - also at Tamworth.
THE Tamworth meeting last Sunday saw Moonbi reinsman Dean Chapple drive yet another treble at a meeting when he piloted the Lola Weidemann-trained Couldntnokhimbak in the opening event followed by Kudos Bert from his own stables in the Bearing Accessories Local Pace. This made it back-to-back wins when they took out the Stockmans Supplies Pace with a mile rate of 1.58.6 for 1609m.
Chapple then continued on his winning way at the Dubbo meeting on Wednesday night when he trained and drove Is That So for his own stables to a win. Chapple just missed out on driving a double, and the third win on the trot for the Tony Missen-trained Shadow Boxing, when the gelding was beaten 4m by Bathurst pacer Major Hall (Nathan Hurst). Shadow Boxing will have his next start in a $10,000 Rewards Series heat final off that placing.
MENANGLE Paceway is certainly producing some top results of late, with the $200,000 Chariots of Fire (Group 1) race last Saturday night seeing the Emma Steward-trained and Chris Alford-driven Poster Boy take out the feature with a mile rate of 1.49.1 for 1609m. Connections have accepted their invitation into the Miracle Mile on March 2.
Poster Boy will join the first to be invited into the million-dollar race, Newcastle Mile winner Yaya’s Hot Spot from the Tritton Racing Stables.
More invitations will be issued after the Menangle meeting this Saturday night with a few contenders on the radar including Inter Dominion winner Tiger Tara looking a certainty after drawing the pole in the $100,000 Allied Express Sprint (Group 1) race. Bathurst pacer Our Uncle Sam (Anthony Frisby), along with Buster Brady (Kima Frenning), Majordan (Chris Geary) and My Field Marshal (Tim Butt), will all meet in the $100,000 Canadian Club Sprint (Group 1).
TAMWORTH will have a contender racing at Menangle on Miracle Mile night with Gottashopearly gaining a start in the $25,000 Lexus Invitational Ladies race after a win last week at Headquarters.
The win by Gottashopearly in the Cordina Foods Heat at Menangle saw Gottashopearly gain his first Metro win which in turn gave Tamworth trainer Richard Williams his first metro winner as a trainer.
At race start 75, Gottashopearly produced his best mile rate of 1.53.1 for 1609m and his 17th career win.
From the six barrier, Gottashopearly led the field throughout with Sydney reinsman Leigh Sutton taking the reins, but a dead heat was declared when the Harry Martin-trained Double Edition driven by Steph Lippiatt joined Gottashopearly on the line.
The Tamworth Harness Racing Club is looking to take a bus to the Miracle Mile meeting at Menangle on March 2, so if you are interested in the trip, please phone the club on 67 652 188 to book a seat.
INVERELL will race this Sunday with a six-race program followed by Tamworth on March 7.
