Yaya’s Hot Spot took out the $100,000 Group 1 race gaining the first invite into the Ainsworth $1,000,000 Miracle Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle on March 2.
The race was put back two time slots when mother nature decided to call by with a downpour and impressive lightning show but the winner was a crowd favourite and returned $81 for the win.
Yaya’s Hot Spot, the race first emergency gained entry to the Group 1 race after the scratching of Rakarolla from the John McCarthy stables, and raced three back on the marker pegs before gaining an inside run.
“There has been a lot of history here,” stated a proud Shane Tritton as he accepted the trophy.
“He [Yayas Hot Spot] is a Newcastle horse and we are Newcastle born and bred and I am still in a bit of shock.
“Thanks to Lachie for a super drive - this is his first Group 1 so he should be very proud. He got the opportunity and he took it and he drove the horse a treat."
For 19-year-old Lachie Manzelmann it was a great thrill in driving his first Group 1 winner after moving from Queensland to the Tritton stables back in January 2018.
Just as a point of interest, Yaya’s Hot Spot won the Garrard’s Tamworth City Cup at Tamworth back in 2015.
Yaya’s Hot Spot had a half-head win over Little Rascal (Luke McCarthy) and Picard (Todd McCarthy) a head away third with his Group 1 win.
ROLL With Tricky certainly had her supporters at last week’s Tamworth harness meeting when the five-year-old mare broke through for her first career win at race start 25.
Trained and driven by Sam Ison, and raced by Naomi Newman, Roll With Tricky commenced as race favourite and went straight to the lead from the two barrier for an all the way win.
“Heading towards the winning post she started to knock up a bit but she kept going," Ison said. “She just got done on the line last start - the last three runs she has been there.”
Roll With Tricky has filled a minor spot in her last three runs, including a second last start at Tamworth, before taking out the TAB App Ladyship Pace by a half neck over Myanga Sportsgirl and (Stacey Weidemann) and Milly Bromac (Leigh Sutton) 6m away third.
The Williams stables had cause for celebration at the Tamworth meeting last Thursday when new stable acquisition Kenya Crusader won the Northern Daily Leader Appreciation Pace.
Raced by Naomi Newman Roll With Tricky clocked 1.59.6 for the 1609 metre journey.
GOTTASHOPEARLY doesn’t mind mixing it with the best of them, with the Richard Williams-trained and Leigh Sutton-driven gelding finishing third in the $35,000 Moama Bowling Club Echuca Pacing Cup (Group 3) at the Echuca harness meeting on Friday night.
After a 12-hour trip from Tamworth to Echuca, Gottashopearly had to gain a run off the inside fence before finishing third to Buster Brady.
Buster Brady for trainer-driver Kima Frenning won the Cobram Pacing Cup back on January 6 and won the Echuca Cup with a mile rate of 1.58.6.

ARE you ready to catch The Bus at Menangle on Saturday night in the final event of the night?
The Bus took home gold with an impressive win in The Pub Group Gold Nugget Pace and setting a new track record of 1.56.1 for 1980m.
The Bus followed that up with a win in the fourth heat of the Hygain Golden Guitar before finishing second in the final to Queensland pacer I’m Norma Jean (Pete McMullen) in the final.
The Bus then shaped up to the Newcastle meeting last Friday night for an all-the-way win and yet another track record.
Under the training hands of Singleton’s Aaron Goadsby, for Mark Jones, The Bus was once again handled by Guy Chapple when a new track record was recorded of 1.56.8 for 2550m in taking out the Newcastle Herald Pace.
OLD Boy’s Day at last week’s Tamworth harness meeting was just a wonderful collection of memories and old acquittances being renewed by some of our pioneers in the sport of harness racing in the north-west over the years. Just as a delightful follow on to the Old Boys meeting, happy 62 years married to Toby and Judy Grant of Manilla for Saturday who were both in attendance at the meeting.
SUNDAY evening will see Tamworth host an eight-race twilight meeting with the Joan Bullock Memorial and the Bearing Accessories Local Pace as the two feature races on the program.
