“Senior citizens play an important role in community life as a whole,” Tamworth Regional Council mayor Col Murray said.
“They make up a large proportion of volunteers in varying roles, actively participate on committees and often advocate on behalf of elderly people who need additional support.”
On Tuesday it was the Manilla community’s turn to say thank you.
Mr Murray keen to acknowledge the time and effort that goes into volunteering.
“The most valuable thing that someone can give is their time,” he said.
Faye Heywood was named Manilla Senior Citizen of the Year, for her work with the Manilla Health Service’s residential care’s diversional therapy activities.
“Faye is a quiet achiever that works tirelessly without seeking recognition for all the time she puts into her roles,” Mr Murray said.
