It’s the first day of school, and Tamworth Public School captains Dominic Barbara and Josie Francis are prepared to deliver on their election promises.
The pair took the top jobs after a nail-biting campaign, and Josie plans to take the new Kindergarten cohort under her wing in her first term.
“I plan to help make the school a nicer place, if kids are sad I’ll help with bullying problems,” she said.
While co-captain Dominic promised to always do his best.
The school is expecting a huge cohort of Kindergarten students next week, 130 and six classes to be exact.
It’s the biggest public primary school in the Tamworth region.

Each new enrollment will come in for a Best Start one-on-one interview with teachers to place their literacy and numeracy skills before they start.
The benefit is that the classroom teacher maps their development principal Chris Connor said.
“So when they come into Kinder they aren’t coming in blind, they know where the children are at,” he said.
Working with children to improve writing skills is the focus for Tamworth Public School this year, as kids increasingly watch television and play video games.
