Here at The Leader, we recommend getting around the festival by foot or using public transport where possible to avoid the hassle of parking around Peel Street.
If you have to drive, here’s a list of exactly what roads will close and when from Friday 18 to Sunday 27, including the Cavalcade – where we got some great shots last year.
Peel Street
The main street will close in the early hours of Thursday January 17 from White Street to Brisbane Street and reopens Monday January 28 at 7pm.
Brisbane Street to Bourke Street will remain open for the festival.
Fitzroy Street
Closed from Smith Place egress to Kable Avenue from 5am on Wednesday January 16 to Tuesday January 29 at 6am.
Kable Avenue
From Brisbane Street to the south of Fitzroy Street, Kable Avenue will be closed from 5am on Wednesday January 16 to midday on Tuesday January 29.
Brisbane Street
Kable Avenue to Marius Street will remain open for the festival.
Australia Day Cavalcade and camping area temporary closures
On Saturday January 26 these roads will close between 6am and 11am:
O’Connell and Macquarie Streets to Marius Street to Peel Street
Peel Street to Brisbane and Bligh Streets
Peel Street to Hill and White Streets
Peel Street to Hill and Murray Streets
Kable Avenue to Hill and Roderick Streets
Roderick Street to Kable and Byrnes Avenues
Carter Street Camping Area
Carter Street between Plain and Bridge Streets will be closed from 7am on Friday January 11 to 6am on Tuesday January 29.
Plain Street between Ebsworth and Carter Streets will be closed from 7am on Friday January 11 to Tuesday January 29.
