
Detectives are appealing for public help following a sexual assault in Inverell.
Police have been told a woman left a licensed premises on Byron Street about 12.15am on Sunday.
The 21-year-old woman continued walking along Byron Street, over the bridge and into Lions Park, where she was attacked.
Police said the woman was struck in the head from behind and sexually assaulted.
The man stole money and other personal items before fleeing the scene on foot.
Police were alerted and launched an investigation, patrolling the area. A crime scene was also set-up and combed by investigators.

Detectives have taken charge of the investigation and are appealing for public help to track down the man wanted for questioning.
He is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance with a large build, about 183cm tall and may have a lisp, police said.
