The atmosphere seemed quite casual on Wednesday evening last week, as if the rain and the relief from the heat had relaxed everyone, at least the spectators anyway.

The teams in the game that we watched didn’t get the memo and ramped up the energy to play a very spirited, energetic game.
Tamworth High took on Calrossy, running out eventual winners 43-37, and they put first points on the board when Lochlan Humphris scored. Humphris scored another two baskets before Blair Kedzlie added his points and paved the way for Elijah Hooper.
Kedzlie and Hooper took turns adding points to the board before Humphris was able to sink another two to finish their half with 22 points.
The Calrossy Thunder started a little slower than THS but when they got going it was a very evenly matched game. Sean Lewis broke the seal for the team and backed himself with another before Jack Price sunk his own two.
Lachlan Bullock found the hoop and followed up with another two after Lewis was able to convert both of his foul shots. Price was able to score again and Harry Tuffrey’s basket in the dying seconds gave the team 20 points at the siren.
The first half was a full on energy fest with the boys forgoing passing in favour of showing off dribbling skills and running the length of the court.
Each team had players of varying heights which highlighted the different assets. Tall players were valuable in the key and the more compact players were able to move around under the radar and appear where they were required.
Wayne Driscoll started Tamworth High’s scoring seconds after the timer started. Blair Kedzlie started a run of baskets which saw him take turns with Humphris and Hooper to increase the tally.
Driscoll came in again before Taylor Matheson made his mark and Kedzlie weighed in. The THS intercept game was on point which gave them plenty of opportunity at the basket.
Lanky Hooper used his long arms to advantage and snatched the ball mid-flight to return possession to his team.
Calrossy’s hoop seemed to repel the ball with many attempts circling the ring promisingly before being flung out into play again.
Sean Lewis was able to sink two in a row to start their scoring and Harrison Hottes followed up with his own basket. Calrossy worked hard to decrease the THS lead and, just as fatigue seemed to set in, they found their second wind.
The last minute charge by the Thunder wasn’t quite enough to catch THS and the game ended 43-37.
