Three Retired Police Association NSW New England branch members received recognition awards at a quarterly meeting in Inverell.
Both Robert Drew and Ray Zahn were presented National Police Service Medals (NPSM).
NPSM are a special service award within the Australian honours system to provide recognition for the “unique contribution and significant commitment of those persons who have given ethical and diligent service as a sworn member of an Australian police service”.
The NPSM is awarded for 15 years “ethical and diligent service”.
Inspector Matthew Hemsworth was proud to present the medals to Mr Drew and Mr Zahn after the Retired Police Association NSW New England branch meeting had finished.
Meanwhile, John Smith was presented with a special watch from the Police Association Australia to recognise 20 years or more of service.
Northern NSW Police Association delegate Senior Constable Chris Jordan felt honoured and privileged to present the watch to Mr Smith.
“I love watch presentations because it honours those before us and those who paved the way for officers like us on the street at the moment.
“I didn’t have the pleasure of working with him, but we certainly heard some great stories,” he said.
Before formally handing out the three recognition awards, retired officers were shown first-hand the new technology being used in the field by officers around the New England.
They were able to see, feel and discuss the body cameras and new protection vests for both clothed, and unclothed officers. All members also received pins.
Meanwhile, Oxley Police District also hosted a private service to mark the day in Gunnedah with retired officers given a tour of the new police station.
