The U14’s were the shining light for Northern Inland as the Central North Invitational Carnival continued in Tamworth on Sunday.
After clean sweeping Mid North Coast on Saturday, highlighted by a brilliant century from U16’s captain Adam McGuirk, the hosts could only manage the one win in their clashes against Scots College.
The U14s provided that after another brilliant batting performance from Jack Hamilton. Following up his first day 67, Hamilton scored a superb century and shared a 200 run partnership with Sam Johnson, as they posted 240.
“They batted brilliantly,” coach Dave Mudaliar said.
Led by Kilian Apen and Matt Holmes, the bowlers then “did a fantastic job”.
“The highlight for me was the effort in the field. It was just superb,” Mudaliar said.
Mid North Coast won the other U14’s clash, Lachlan Dowling steering them to victory with an unbeaten 102 as they chased down Hunter Valley’s 9-178 with three wickets in hand.
Mid North Coast also got up in the U13’s and U16’s. The 13’s rolled Hunter for 115 and reached 4-116 in reply. The 16’s was a closer tussle with Mid North Coast making 9-208 and Hunter falling just three runs short.
Scots were more successful in their run chase passing Northern Inland’s 175 with two overs to spare. McGuirk was again a standout with 44. A few other batsmen got starts, Cotter Litchfield the best of them with 21no.
Jack Irving (2-26) was the pick of the Scots bowlers. Shehan Sinnetamby then guided them home with an unbeaten 83 at first drop. He was backed up by Alec Bathgate (27) and Ben Ronson (25), Dylan Smith (2-27), Josh Attard (2-28) and Nick Page (1-24) the best performers with the ball for Northern Inland.
The Northern Inland U13’s also batted first and on the back of Ben Livingstone’s 57 made 152. Scots then looked to be cruising at 0-93 but Nick Mead (5-29) brought his side back into it with three wickets in two overs. But Scots got the runs in the end.
