Indoor and outdoor staff will wear pink shirts from Tuesday
as part of the annual community event. The council office and library in Manilla St will also be flushed with pink ribbons and pink decorations.
Tamworth Regional Council citizen services co-ordinator, Robyn Fletcher, said Manilla in the Pink seems to get bigger every year.
“This year it will run for the whole month. In the past we ran it for a week,” she said.
Mrs Fletcher said the annual event started seven years ago when the council’s Manilla office staff decided to have a pink ribbon breakfast.
“It’s just grown since then. Now the Manilla Matters Committee and the Manilla Community Development Committee encourage businesses to get involved by decorating their shop, dressing in pink and fundraising for the NSW Cancer Council,” she said.
“It’s a great community effort.”
The Manilla Matters Committee and the Manilla Community Development Committee is collecting funds raised in the town on behalf of the NSW Cancer Council in the lead-up to Pink Ribbon Day on Monday, October 22.
