Both teams know what it takes to make it to the final and both sides have been there before.
The only difference is that Tamworth has walked away with the silverware before and Albury hasn’t.
Last year Albury were beaten in the final by Merewether at the SCG.
This year Merewether have been knocked out by Hamilton Wickham, the same team that ended Tamworth s run last year.
Despite the fact that they have won the competition before and beaten Albury before Tamworth captain Tom Groth is under no illusion.
“We have rolled them a few times before but that doesn’t mean much,” Groth said.
“They have got some Vic Country boys playing for them so are quite strong.”
“It is a similar area to us in regards to cricket.”
Groth has been to the final at the SCG three times, winning twice.
“Anyone can win it from here on in and make it to the final,” Groth said.
“Whoever takes their opportunities and turns up on the day will win.”
“It’s the team that fields well and does the little things right.”
Tamworth have prided themselves on their fielding this season.
“We have been doing well in the field.”
“We hunt as a pack and build pressure on the opposition.”
“It is another string to our bow.”
The captain’s only concern is that the team has not been pushed as a side yet this season.
“That could be a good or bad thing.”
“It does mean that our confidence is way up and we like to play that way.”
After getting knocked out early by Hamilton Wickham before the finals last year the side and captain are ready to make amends.
“We fell short last year for the first time in years which was very disappointing.”
“We are all pretty pumped up to go out and make amends for that this year.”
“We have got a great team together and only got the two poms (Calum Rowe and Stuart Plant) for a year.”
“It is a stronger side than we have had for the past two years.”
“It is a good opportunity for everyone and a great opportunity to play at the SCG.”
Tamworth will pay Albury on Saturday and then another game on Sunday for a chance to play the final at the SCG on January 12.
