The list is based on the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) data for 2012 and contains the lowest number of hotels and clubs since the scheme started in 2008.
Minister for Hospitality George Souris released the list on Friday saying it confirms a continuing drop in the number of venues facing operating restrictions due to high levels of alcohol-related violence.
“The NSW Government has made fighting alcohol-fuelled violence a priority,” Mr Souris said.
“And we’ve introduced tough new measures like the Three Strikes disciplinary scheme which can result in licence suspensions or cancellation for serial offenders, increased police powers to deal with drunks and established a trial of sobering-up centres.”
The Ivy in Sydney recorded 24 violent incidents in 2012. It was named as the state’s worst hotel and will have to abide by Level 1 operating restrictions for the next six months.
It is the only venue with Level 1 restrictions on this list, compared to four on the previous list.
Fifteen other venues recorded between 12 and 18 violent incidents in 2012 to be classified as Level 2 premises.
The New England Hotel in Armidale was one of the venues classified as Level 2, and Licensee Dan Ric has said he is happy to work with the authorities.
“We have many new systems and procedures and are working closely with police to curve violence.”
“I believe our relationship with local police is very strong.”
The hotel already closes at midnight, except for last drinks at 2.30am on a Saturday night before a 3am close.
And a 12.30am lockout is already in force.
In Orange the Royal Hotel was one of the venues now removed from the list after reducing its number of recorded incidents over the last year.
The hotel recorded just nine incidents, resulting in a reduction of 30.8 per cent.
The Oxford Hotel in Bathurst and the Waratah Hotel in Mudgee are the only central west venues to remain on the most violent list.
According to the figures, 12 incidents were recorded at the Oxford Hotel and 13 at the Waratah Hotel in the last year.
Four new venues have been added to the list - Forster Tuncurry Memorial Services Club, Penrith RSL Club, the New Brighton Hotel in Manly, and the Mill Tavern in Young.
The 224 incidents attributed to venues on the latest list were 60 fewer than the previous list, representing a 21 per cent reduction and a new record low in the history of the scheme.
“As well as a record low number of Level 1 and 2 premises and their recorded incidents, another 13 licensed venues have been removed from the list after their assault rates fell below the threshold of 12 incidents in a year.”
