Jesse Leigh Green is facing a judge-alone hearing in the NSW Supreme Court, charged with the murder of Teah Rose Luckwell, 22, in her South Tamworth unit in 2018.

The hearing has restarted after it opened in July and ran for two weeks. James Orle gave evidence then and returned to the witness box on Tuesday.

The court heard he had been with Ms Luckwell in the days before she was found dead inside her Robert Street unit.

In cross-examination defence barrister Stuart Bouveng read a message Mr Orle sent to Ms Luckwell on Facebook the day after she was found dead, part of which said "I'll come and see you soon".

He asked why Mr Orle would send that message if he already knew Ms Luckwell had died.

"I was just replying back to the message ... I'm not too sure really," he said.

Mr Bouveng asked if he could have sent it to "cover up" any involvement in Ms Luckwell's death, which Mr Orle denied.

Crown prosecutor Brian Costello said the message was sent at 11:05am, before Mr Orle had been told Ms Luckwell was dead.

The hearing continues before Justice Stephen Campbell, sitting via video from Sydney due to COVID-19.

Ms Luckwell was allegedly stabbed and killed in the early hours of March 28, 2018.

Green is facing charges of murder, break and enter, and using an offensive weapon.
