
A MAN who was behind the wheel of a ute when it crashed and claimed the life of a young boy in late 2018 has been sentenced for negligent driving causing death.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, fronted a hearing in Tamworth Local Court earlier this year and his charge was found proven after the tragic crash near Moonbi.

Magistrate Peter Thompson convicted the man and sentenced him in court last week to a community correction order (CCO) for 18 months, court documents show.

The man, aged in his 20s, must not commit any offences and must attend court if called on to do so for the duration of the CCO.
The Tamworth man was also disqualified from holding a driver's licence for a year.
Both orders started after sentencing last week.
The Tamworth man was driving a ute south along the New England Highway near Moonbi when it crashed in late 2018, causing the death of a child seated in the back.
Police charged the man months later, after extensive investigations.
