An elderly man has been assaulted during a home invasion in the state's north west overnight on Monday.

Police were called to a home on Warrior Street, Wee Waa, at about 1.20am, Monday August 30.
They were told an 81-year-old male resident had woken to find two unknown men in his bedroom.
When the man got out of bed, one of the men allegedly assaulted him, before the pair fled the scene.

Oxley police attended the property and searched the surrounding area, but were unable to locate the men.
During a search of the home, police seized a number of items, including a knife, log splitter and head lamp, which will be forensically examined.
Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is being urged to contact Oxley Police District, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
