Central North and New England junior rugby union, and North West Regional Rugby competition, executives will turn their attention to what they hope will be an exciting 2022 after making the tough decision to cancel the remainder of the Friday night competition and Central North Gala Days.

In a joint statement released this week, they said after after considering the options discussed at a meeting with the various stakeholders, based on the scenario of the lockdown being lifted and extended for either all or some of the LGA's within the two zones, and factoring in the current health orders, washed out games which might have needed to be played to determine finals' teams, field availability, end of term dates, "return to play" protocols and risk mitigation, it was "not feasible, practical or responsible to continue with our 2021 season".

"Although we would prefer to play out our season and reach a result from the finals series, the health and safety of our players and greater communities is paramount," the statement read.
The parties said that over the coming months the zone and competition executives would be working closely with local development officers, club and school committees and coaches to plan next season's competitions.
"Our 2022 season has some exciting new developments and opportunities with a proposed Summer 7s Series, the commencement of the north west referees academy and the coach development program," the statement continued.
