A MAN is set to face a hearing after denying allegations that he pointed a rifle at volunteer firefighters while they were working at a property on the outskirts of Tamworth.

Michael Stephen Finch will front Tamworth Local Court in November for an hour-long hearing on a string of weapons and common assault charges, which he has denied in court.
Court documents show he will also be sentenced at that time for three counts of not storing a firearm safely, charges which he has already pleaded guilty to.

Finch, 41, is accused of being armed with a gun outside a property near Appleby, 20km outside Tamworth, when police were called to Appleby Lane on the morning of April 24.
The police case is that Finch pointed the rifle at a group of firefighters who were doing controlled burns in the area.
Police claim they spoke to Finch at the scene and found three firearms inside a vehicle at the property, which were seized.
Finch has been on strict bail since the days after his arrest, which was continued by magistrate Julie Soars.
