A WATERING can and a steel bar have allegedly been used to assault two Tamworth residents inside their home during an altercation which ended with a man being stabbed with a knife.

Police claim a man and a woman smashed a window and kicked in a door to force their way into a home in Kirkham Crescent, Oxley Vale, about 1am on Wednesday.
A Tamworth man fronted court later that day, charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence.

The 20-year-old man is alleged to have assaulted two residents inside the Oxley Vale home, using a watering can and a steel bar before grabbing a knife from the kitchen and stabbing a 45-year-old man in both his calves.
Police claim the woman had already fled the scene when Oxley officers arrived at the home, where they arrested the 20-year-old man.
The man who had allegedly been knifed in both legs was taken to Tamworth hospital and will undergo surgery for his serious injuries, according to police.
The other resident who was allegedly assaulted at the Kirkham Crescent home, a 42-year-old woman, suffered a minor hand injury.
The younger man was refused bail by police and spent the rest of the night behind bars.
In Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday, he was formally refused bail by magistrate Peter Thompson, who ordered the accused to remain in custody, according to court documents.
Police confirmed investigations into the incident are ongoing.
