A TAMWORTH man has been refused bail in court accused of grooming a child on social media.

The 27-year-old cannot be identified by court order, to protect the identity of the young complainant.
He appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Monday, four days after his arrest in Tamworth.
Detectives allege the man requested indecent material from a boy, aged under 16, using a social media app, between May 24 and 25.

Police were alerted on May 26 to allegations that a carriage service had been used in an attempt to groom a teenage boy.
Detectives took charge of the case, and the man was arrested at Tamworth Police Station on Thursday, just before 11am.
He was questioned and later charged with failing to comply with reporting obligations; using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material; using a carriage service to groom a child for sex; and procuring a child for unlawful sexual activity.
The man was denied bail in an out-of-sessions hearing on Friday, and again on Monday.
Magistrate Julie Soars ordered police to compile the brief of evidence in the case and adjourned it to August.
