Police dogs from Tamworth, Inverell and Sydney were deployed to Armidale this week to back a police crackdown on break-ins and thefts from cars across the town.
Police allege two males, aged 17 and 20, stole a 2020 black Holden Colorado HSV dual-cab ute and trailer from a Railway Parade home before 10pm on Thursday.
New England police spotted the stolen ute speeding along Canambe Street shortly after.

Officers tried to pull the vehicle over before initiating a chase when it failed to stop.
The ute crashed into a bollard and the two occupants fled before one of the police dogs tracked them to Ryan Avenue where they were captured.
On Friday, the 17-year-old pleaded guilty in Armidale Children's Court to take and drive a conveyance without the consent of the owner; drive while suspended; larceny and drive vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Magistrate Roger Prowse denied the teen bail, ordering him into juvenile detention until mid-March.
The 20-year-old also appeared in Armidale court and admitted to being carried in the stolen car, but has denied he stole goods worth more than $2000.
His bid for release was rejected by Mr Prowse, and he was ordered into custody until the same date.
Police said the ute and trailer have been recovered but power tools inside it are missing.
Meanwhile, police claim they were pelted with objects during a chase on Friday morning.
About 3.45am, a grey Hyundai Accent failed to stop for officers on Barney and Dangar Streets in Armidale.
When the Accent failed to pull over, police gave chase before objects were hurled at the police car, causing minor damage.
The driver fled the car, and jumped a fence in Hiddens Street before running off. Officers searched the area but found no trace of the driver.
Police said investigations are continuing.
