Primary school kids across the region got dressed in their school uniforms on Friday and packed their backpacks for the first time since school broke up for the Christmas holidays.

There was excitement in the air as students saw their friends again, and anticipation what a new year at school might bring.

Most primary students headed back to the classroom at Tamworth Public School on Friday, but the young ones getting ready for Kindergarten will have their first day of school next week.
