NIAS has struck a new partnership deal with Northern NSW Football to deliver high-performance soccer across the North West.
The program will commence in February, with applications currently open.
The program will operate out of Tamworth, Gunnedah and Inverell for boys and girls from under-7 to under-16 (born between 2005 and 2014). Content in each program will vary across age groups.
Players will have the opportunity to compete in gala days, play out-of-region matches and develop their skills
They will have access to high-level coaches over a minimum of 30 weeks.
NIAS chief executive James Cooper described the partnership as "exciting".
"We are thrilled to have football back at the academy and look forward to NIAS FC in 2021," he said.
Meanwhile, the 2021 NIAS netball squad has had a pre-program training session.
The session was held in Glen Innes, with players doing skills training and fitness testing and playing matches. The day doubled as a trial for a number of players who were unable to make the netball trials last month.
The following triallists were selected in the 2021 netball program: Neve Harris (Inverell), Tarnee Ingram (Hillvue), Alexia Wineti (Inverell) and Bria Wineti (Inverell).
The netball program will officially commence in February.
In related news, Lone Star applications are open and will close at the end of December. To be eligible, players must be aged between 14 and 18 and must have competed at a state, national or international level.
