Swimmers from all over the region descended on the Kootingal War Memorial Swimming Pool for the "awesome" day, as described by Kootingal coach Graham Johnstone.
"We had 170 swimmers. We put our entries out and they were shut within 10 days, that was the interest shown in the area," Johnstone said.
"We've got 110 swimmers in our club and we've got 58 here today. So we had 20 or 30 kids who didn't get in on time.

"The entries were amazing - and from everywhere. We've got kids from down the Hunter Valley and spread out throughout all the New England North West."
Johnstone was chuffed by the interest shown in the carnival and he was just as happy by how his charges were performing.
"The kids are going great," he said.
"Our freestyle kids, their times have blew us away so I'm happy with how our club's going. As the coach of Kooty, I'm ecstatic."
