Kaylan McGrady is wanted in connection to the shooting in Boggabilla on the night of November 23. His cousin, Alexander William McGrady, remains behind bars after he was captured on the weekend.

New England police have combed several houses for the gun and 19-year-old McGrady but there's been no sign of either.

"The firearm remains outstanding despite a number of houses being searched," New England Detective Inspector Roger Best told the Leader.

In Moree Local Court, magistrate Mark Richardson refused him bail on Monday, ordering him to stay in custody until mid-January while police gather the evidence against him.

McGrady was not required to enter pleas to four charges of firing a firearm at a house with disregard for safety - a charge that carries a maximum of 14 years' imprisonment, if found guilty.

He also pleaded not guilty to two counts of domestic-related intimidation.

Police said five crime scenes were set-up in Boggabilla - in Merriwa, Yeoman and Racecourse streets - but after forensic officers examined the scenes, they only now believe four homes were hit.

"Police established five crime scenes, and after forensic examinations of the scenes we established four homes were hit but another location involved shooting into the air," Detective Best said.

"Inquiries will continue until we locate Kaylan McGrady and the outstanding firearm."

Police suspect the shooting was triggered by an ongoing dispute between parties in Toomelah and Boggabilla.

It's alleged the McGrady cousins used a white Magna to drive around, firing shots at homes and into the air. The car was later found burnt out in the mission.

"Investigations suggest it was the result of ongoing tensions between various factions in the two communities," Detective Best said.

Police are continuing to make patrols of the townships and believe Kaylan could be hiding out in the Toomelah or Boggabilla area, urging the community to keep their eyes peeled.

"The community have been assisting, and we have taken numerous statements from witnesses," Detective Best said.

"Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers and that information can be treated anonymously."
