A LOCAL road has been closed off to traffic due to flooding, after heavy weekend rain across the region.

Tamworth Regional Council confirmed Burgmanns Lane, which joins the New England Highway to Duri Road on the outskirts of town, had been closed off to traffic on Monday morning.
It is understood the main causeway on the lane has about two metres of water gushing over it, after rain bucketed down at the weekend.

Tamworth Regional Council urged people driving around Tamworth and surrounds to be careful, as more roads are expected to be affected by flooding today.
Motorists have been reminded to never drive through floodwater.
Rain belted down in the region during a wild and wet weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) weather station at Tamworth airport clocked more than 45mm of rain during downpours on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
