A MAN has been cut free from his car after it crashed into a tree on the edge of Tamworth.

The crash happened on the Oxley Highway, or Gunnedah Road, near the airport about 1.30pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services including ambulance paramedics, police and Fire and Rescue NSW crews rushed to the scene after reports the man was trapped.
A spokesperson for Ambulance NSW said a rescue crew was also deployed to help free the driver.

Paramedics treated the 84-year-old man for pains in his chest, as well as cuts and abrasions to his arms and legs.
He was taken to Tamworth hospital in a stable condition.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
There are no delays for motorists at the scene.
