Barraba native Melissa Bowman was recently appointed into the role and has since spent her time travelling across the state exploring ways the charity can help those in need.
However, Ms Bowman said while plenty of people needed assistance, communities affected by bushfires were in dire need of support.

"Last week, I spent some time in Tenterfield and they have really gone through a hard time recently," Ms Bowman said.
"They've really had a double whammy after experiencing the drought and being hit by bushfires.
"I'd say the combination of those two things will make the recovery process a lot tougher.
"They've had a bit of rain up that way, but still it's going to be a big recovery period."
Part of Ms Bowman's role as Givit's drought co-ordinator has been to liaise with local community groups in order to best help those in need.
"The recovery of the drought is going to go on for years because, while it may have rained and we currently have green grass, people have sold their stock and in turn are struggling for income," she said.
"You look at the small businesses in towns like in Tenterfield, there's so many shops closing there because those drought-affected farmers are limiting their spending.
"That's why gift cards for local businesses have been extremely popular.
"Whether it's for agricultural supplies, groceries or something else, the farmers have just loved them.
"By offering up gift cards, it's really a win-win for these communities because not only are people getting what they need, but they are also supporting local businesses in the process."
Ms Bowman said she would now turn her attention towards getting as many community groups registered with Givit as possible.
"My next port of call will be the Walcha and Gloucester areas," she said.
"While there, I'll be giving the run down of how to get involved with us and what we can do to help.
"People are often surprised to learn how easy it is to register a community group.
"Basically, you just go to our website with an ABN number and two referees and register straight away.
"From there we can help out in any way we can."
