Emergency services were called to a site near Black Prince Drive at Lightning Ridge just before 8am on Thursday, following the discovery of the body of a woman.
Officers from Central North Police District attended and established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
She has not been formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 30s.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
A NSW Police spokesperson said no further information was available at this time.
