A man has been charged following an investigation into the aggravated sexual assault of a woman in Tamworth at the weekend.
About 11pm on Saturday, officers from Oxley Police District responded following reports a 54-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted at a home at Tamworth.
Police were told the woman had arrived home and was detained by an unknown man before being bound and gagged. The man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing the home on foot.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene before taking her for treatment at Tamworth Base Hospital.
A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.
Detectives from the child abuse and sex crimes squad commenced an investigation and conducted an extensive canvass of the local area.
As part of their inquiries, detectives spoke with a 58-year-old man, who had made numerous attempts to contact and see the woman in the days following the incident.
During a search of the man’s phone, investigators located videos of the woman that were allegedly filmed from outside her home without her knowledge.
The man was subsequently charged with two counts of film person in private act in circumstances of aggravation, two counts of peep or pry, and stalk/intimidate with intent to cause fear or physical harm.
Detectives also executed a search warrant at a home on White Street, Tamworth, where they seized various items relevant to the investigation.
Following further inquiries, detectives laid an additional three charges of aggravated sexual assault.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court on Tuesday, February 12, where he was formally refused bail and is to re-appear at the same court on Tuesday April, 9.
