Todd Payne will be hoping for a late Christmas gift from one of his four runners at Inverell on Boxing Day.
The Inverell trainer has runners in four of the event’s five races with Newcastle Dancer set to compete for the Goodwood Cup in race four.
Payne said he was “not too sure” how the gelding would fare during the cup.
“I think he will be competitive but the 1200 metre distance is something I’m not too sure about,” Payne said.
“He’s fresh of his last start in Toowoomba and should hopefully go well but the distance is a bit of an unknown.
“In terms of strategy I’m not too sure how we will go about it, I will probably leave that up to Scotty Sweedman who is riding him to decide.”

Payne said the Inverell track’s Good3 rating would benefit his horses.
“It will certainly suit us,” he said.
“A little bit of rain would be nice but there is nothing much anyone can do about that.
“The track’s in pretty good shape and will really suit us I reckon.”
Try Me Choice will lead off the day for Payne in race one followed by Betty Bullet in race two.
“I’d say those two are probably my best two chances of the day,” Payne said.
“Hopefully those two get the day rolling for us.”
