Around 60 sidecars will tear their way around Oakburn Park on Saturday night along with a strong field of motocross and junior riders.
Seventeen of the top 20 in the 2018 series, which is now into its fourth year, will be part of the lineup as the race for the series honours goes down to the wire. Only six points separate the top three combinations following the first three rounds in North Brisbane, Newcastle and Albury.
Newcastle duo Brad Pitt and Nathan McFadden will lead the Aussie charge against the Kiwi raiders, and fly the local flag.
The Tamworth Motorcycle Club members sit atop the standings from two Kiwi pairings. They are looking to go back to back after taking out the series last year with a third in the Tamworth race.
Saturday’s winner will receive 50 points, second place 48 points and so on.
After racing four heats, the best performers will race over two semi-finals with the top six advancing to the final.
“The rain during the week has made the track really good,” TMCC president Paul Slade said.
As well as the overall accolades, the speedway and dirt track sidecars will also be racing for the Jack Bond Cup.
“At the end of the day whoever wins the speedway sidecar and dirt track sidecar will etch their name on the shield,” Slade said.
There are 18 nominations for the dirt track event, numbers Slade said he hasn’t seen, even for an Australian title, for 20 years.
Great news for the event, he is though a bit baffled by the numbers.
“Last weekend we were scheduled to run the NSW track championships but had to cancel them because we didn’t have enough nominations. We only had three for the dirt track sidecars,” he said.
The Cox family will also be putting it all on the line in the Matthew Cox Memorial Race, which will see Cox’s father Glenn, and his four brothers “all swing off sidecars”.
Gates open at midday with racing commencing at 4pm.
Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for pensioners and under-16s and $50 a family.
