The club’s come and try days were a success, with young athletes having the opportunity to try their hand at shot put, discus and long jump for the very first time.
Athletes from as young as four years old can join Tamworth Little Athletics, starting in the tiny-tot age group right up to seniors for the 17 year age group.
The club holds its competition nights on a Friday nights, getting underway at 5.30pm.
Training is held at the Greg Norman Drive field opposite the TRECC.
Athletes have the opportunity to experience different distance running events from the 50 metre, 100 metre and 200 metre sprints, through to 1500 metres for those athletes who are more suited to the long distance events.
Training and competition are also available for field events such as shot put and discus, and for senior athletes javelin throwing.
Other events include high jump, long jump, and hurdles.
Athletes are sorted into their age groups when they arrive at the track, after a quick warm up and start events.
On December 1 and December 2 Tamworth will be hosting a Zone Carnival.
Athletes placing first or second at the carnival will qualify to compete at a regional meeting in Glendale.
Juniors to Under 13s can compete in four events over the two days, and seniors up to six events.
The club offers great opportunity for kids to become involved in a community activity where they can make friends, keep fit and thrive in a healthy and fitness-promoting environment.
Parents are on hand to assist with the running of the night. There is a weekly rotation of events and parental assistance roster.
The club also has a weekly canteen for athletes and families to enjoy.
If you think you or your children would like to become involved, all are welcome to give it a try.
Club president Sam Cox (0418263683) would be pleased to chat to anyone who would like more information about the club’s activities.
Registrations can be completed online and uniforms and rego packs can be purchased and picked up from the club.
