Gunnedah Anglican Church is firing up for Youth Surge on Friday night.
The local church will host more than 100 youth from Tamworth, Quirindi, Bingara, Wee Waa, Moree, Warialda and Narrabri for the annual event in the grounds on Elgin Street from 5.30pm-8pm.
The teens will catch-up over a barbecue and hear a message from Tamworth’s Josh Bovis on “the parable of the Aussie boofhead”. The message will be based on Luke chapter 12 in the Bible.
Assistant minister Aiden Sibrava said Youth Surge was a great way for Gunnedah’s youth to form friendships with fellow Christians.
“It’s a night that’s open to any youth groups that want to come, and what we want to do is show young Christians in the district that they’re not alone; there are heaps of youth across the north-west that are seeking Jesus,” Mr Sibrava said.
Gunnedah teenagers Tamara and Kelliana Brown are among the youth who are counting down to Friday night.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Tamara said.
“It’s somewhere we can meet our friends and other people from youth groups and connect.”

Kelliana echoed her sister’s comments.
“I like meeting friends and knowing there are other people who are having a hard time as well,” she said.
Gunnedah Anglican Youth have a busy month ahead, with a Senior Youth Day Out on November 10 and a three-day visit from Hunter Bible Church (HBC) in mid-November.
Mr Sibrava said the Day Out is like a “house party”, with a focus on Christian talks, coupled with games and snacks.
The weekend with HBC will include Cafe Church, a cafe-style set-up complete with games, music and of course, food.
“HBC has been coming for a number of years and I think it is a good opportunity to build links with that church because so many people [from Gunnedah] go down to Newcastle,” Mr Sibrava said.
The assistant minister said this year Gunnedah Anglican Youth had been focused on “seeking to be faithful and encourage well-rounded disciples”.
“Youth at Gunnedah Anglican Church has a six-year teacher program [and] we’re hoping to pick up on most things a young Christian might need to know, so hopefully they come out the other side prepared for life and the world,” Mr Sibrava said.
“Something cool we’re doing each week is ‘Meet the Saint’. We invite a Christian whose been a Christian for a while and we ask them everything from ‘What’s your perfect day off?’ to ‘What’s your favourite story in the Bible?’.”
The church also holds youth group at Breeza once a month.
