THE region’s councils and sporting clubs are being invited to apply for state government funds to help upgrade sporting facilities and implement new community projects.
Clubs and councils can apply for funding of up to $25,000 under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant program.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the funding is available for upgrading or creating new sports facilities, new sport programs, community events and projects that improve sports participation.
“Sport is a vital part in all our communities and I encourage all clubs and councils to apply,” Mr Anderson said.
“As I travel across the region I hear how sport has a strong foundation in these communities and this program aims to increase regular and on-going participation opportunities in sport and active recreation.”
Mr Anderson said the program also aims to provide opportunities to help grow sports within the region.
“This year the program will have two focus areas targeting opportunities specifically for women and girls and overall participation opportunities,” he said.
“There are four project types within the program, including sport development, community sport events, sport access and facility development.”
The Tamworth MP said clubs will be able to apply for funding amounts both big and small.
“The maximum amounts available are: $2,000 for sport development, $5,000 for community sport events, $5,000 for sport access and up to $20,000 for facility development,” he said.
“The minimum amount available is $250 for all project types with the exception being for facility development which has a minimum request of $1,000.
“The maximum available to any one organisation is $25,000 in a financial year. The amount organisations request should reflect the scale of the project/s.
“It also comes on top of $200 million that has been committed to improving sporting facilities in regional NSW.”
Mr Anderson said organisations must contribute to the project, the higher the contribution the more favourably it will be looked upon.
This can be a financial contribution or through use of voluntary labour, donated materials and/or equipment or other resources directly related to the project.
Third party organisations are also encouraged to contribute, including Local Government Authorities and these contributions will be counted as part of the club contribution.
Applications close on 24 August 2018.
