The sixth carnival on the Central North calendar, the Gunnedah carnival saw over 100 budding young players from under-6s through to under-12s lace up the boots.
A Try Rugby session for girls from 9-14-years old was also run in conjunction with the carnival, adding to what Gunnedah Junior Rugby Union Club Publicity Officer Sue Wilson said was a “really good day”.
She said all the Central North clubs were well represented across the different age divisions, and while games are non-competitive there was some good rugby played over the day.
Some of the Central North under-14s helped out with the refereeing as well as some of the senior Red Devils.
Wilson said the carnivals are just a great day out.
“It’s the opportunity for the kids just to play that team sport and it’s a good family day out wherever you go,” she said.
The next carnival is at Barraba on July 29. Gunnedah will also host a gala day for the under-14s regional competition later this month.
