These are the weird and wonderful combinations that will leave you gobsmacked when Damian Callinan and Paul Calleja take to the stage in Tamworth this week.
As part of the Tamworth Taste Festival, the dynamic duo are bringing their hilarious show, Wine Bluffs to the city over three big nights.
Whether you’re a lover or a hater – you don’t need to subscribe to the wine-based beverage to fall in love with the hilarious antics of the two comics.
After intoxicating sold out audiences across the country, The Wine Bluffs are here to do what they do – bluff about wine.
Their first show was on Wednesday.
Fresh from judging the Fruit Wine Section at The Rockhampton Show, they will take you through the cellar door experience with a comedic twist.
They’ll help you match wine to the unknown, translate over-written bottle blurbs and identify the biggest ‘wine wanker’ in the room.
They reckon if you have a wine fridge set on two temperatures... It’s probably you.
Mr Callinan says Mr Calleja is highly skilled in pairing the most obscure foods with the perfect wine and that’s a highlight of the show.
“He does this in restaurants, people call out the grape varieties and he tells them what food,” he said.
“It’ll be a confusing experience, but in between there will be a few tips that you can take home with you,” Mr Calleja said.
“Like learning how to open a bottle of wine without using a corkscrew.”
“We’ll be taking you through the best ways to taste wine and how to swirl the wine.”
The duo say they’ll cover every facet of the wine industry and they’re looking forward to getting the audience involved.
They’ve urged show goers to bring along their mates who know the most and the least about wine and cast them into the spotlight.
“The show is us, setting ourselves up as the illusion that we are across everything in the wine industry,” he said.
“But after 10 or 15 minutes the audience will realise we’re not.
“Everyone comes along on the ride.
“We have a lot of fun with the audience which is great. The show is never the same.
“It’s also a nice dynamic too.”
The Wine Bluffs will perform at the Passchendaele Room of the Tamworth War Memorial Town Hall over Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Each show kicks off from 8pm.
Tickets are $32 for adults or $28 for pensioners.
