She is one of the big names of Australian Country Music, so it was only fitting that Amber Lawrence hosted an Australia Day show at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Lawrence will perform her only Festival show, Cheers to Oz, at Wests’ League Club’s Blazes Auditorium on Friday, January 26 from 1.30pm.
“I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to have a real Australian flavour and all Australian songs,” she said.
“They’ll mostly be my own but you can expect lots of special guests.”
Her Australiana themed music has earnt Amber Lawrence six Golden Guitar nominations for the year following her collaboration with her mate Travis Collins on their EP our Backyard.
“It kind of makes sense that it’s an Australia Day show,” she said.
“It’s always great fun, it’s a public holiday and that means more people can come to it and the locals aren’t working either.
“It’s a great stage at Wests’, the lighting is amazing and it’s a great sound and a really comfortable environment.”
She described her six finalist nominations as “mind blowing.”
“I didn’t expect that many, especially because when we wrote the songs, it was more of a side project for us,” she said.
“We’re lucky we hit the nail on the head and wrote something we really believed in – our names just kept getting called out one by one – if we could get one award out of six it would be great.
“If I had to think of anyone to do this with, it was inevitable that Travis and I would work together – he was one of the first friendships I made (in the industry).”
Lawrence has hinted that fans could expect her to start working on new music this year.
