Tickets are now on sale for the band’s gigs at The Longyard Hotel and The Pub which are among a handful of appearances for the trio over the ten days.
“We’ve always done 10 free shows for The Pub group and usually get 500 people out on the deck at The Longyard,” Goat Girl (Mahney) said.
“We decided to go ticketed this year to make sure everyone gets a seat and to make it a lot more intimate.
“We have two shows out at The Pub in the air conditioning and one at The Longyard in the back at the Goonoo Goonoo room.”
Along with the gig change this year, the group are excited to bring their new album, Old Jack’s Bones, to Tamworth which they’ll be launching at the festival.
“There’ll be a whole bunch of new songs and merchandise that we’ll be releasing at the Festival,” Goat girl said.
“The album is still following the twist we do on traditional folk music.
“We take really old mountain music and turn it into our own with our own vibe.
“We put a couple of originals on this album too – our fans might remember an old bloke named Jack from Queensland who came to play with us a couple of times in Tamworth.
“He played the bones and he taught me how to do it, so we thought we’d honour him with a song and called the album after him.”
Goat Girl described the band’s music as “feel good and happy.”
“We tell a lot of the stories about where the songs came from, people walk away from the shows feeling like they have learnt something,” she said.
“The show is quite raw, a lot of it is not rehearsed – it’s a passion, a true passion and I don’t think you can fake that with any amount of acting.
“Tamworth for us is a really important festival, there is such a big amount of audience from all over Australia, it’s an important time of the year to have such a wide-range of audience.”
