The business, owned by Nick and Kylie Bradford, was awarded second place (silver) for cultural tourism in the Australian Tourism Awards announced last week.
The close-knit team of about eight employees were up against big businesses and companies, with the Bradfords chuffed to be named one of the best in the nation.
Mr Bradford said it was the team behind he and his wife that were major contributors to their success of the small business.
“We’re overwhelmed for us to be recognised at a national level,” Mr Bradford told The Leader.
“When you’re competing with some of the best attractions in the country; to be awarded silver is quite extraordinary.
“A lot of attractions on the night in different categories were thanking 200 plus employees but there are about eight of us at the Woollen Mill and that’s what makes our silver win that much more special.”
The national recognition had followed the success of the Woollen Mill at a regional and state level which elevated them to the finals.
“It’s taken a lot of work and dedication and we’ve got great people in our team here,” Mr Bradford said.
“Our six other employees are just as passionate about giving great service and producing good products as my wife and I are as owners.”
Mr and Mrs Bradford purchased the Mill ten years ago before making the move from Sydney to run it full time three-years ago.
The venue is a popular tourist attraction to the area, with busloads rolling in to see the original machinery and the craftsmanship of wool manufacturing.
“Running a business from afar was challenging so we moved from Sydney three years ago,” he said.
“The business has jumped out of the water in terms of what we do.
”We are passionate, we’ve got so much to talk about.
“The oldest machine here was manufactured in 1914 and still works just as good as the day it came off the production line.
“It’s what people love, they are so excited to see things like this as these days everything is electronic and shiny.”
