I refer to the letter by Hugh Ranclaud (NDL, Saturday, April 30) in which he criticises Mr Windsor’s alliances and judgements.

The main reason conservative voters like Mr Ranclaud criticise Mr Windsor stems from Tony Windsor’s decision to back Julia Gillard after the close 2010 election.
They really did not want him to exercise independent judgment; they wanted him to back a particular party – the party they supported.
At the time, in Mr Windsor’s judgement, which he clearly put on the public record, Mr Abbott did not have the desired qualities to be Prime Minister.
And it came to pass that in the opinion of more than 60 per cent of all voters (who last year supported the replacement of Mr Abbott by Mr Turnbull), Mr Windsor got it right, way back in 2010.
I consider Mr Windsor to be a man of integrity and good judgement, and one of the wisest to have sat in the House of Representatives in the last decade or more.
Sadly, I no longer reside in Tamworth and will not get the opportunity to vote for him.
