LAST Friday night I attended a pretty cool gig in a top spot – The Loft Art Studio in Tamworth.

Hearing music in such a setting, with Tony La Chiusa’s artworks dominating the walls, was rather appropriate. Art meets art.
Sandy Rixon uses her studio as an “occasional venue” to host events when musical mates are coming through Tamworth.
The triple treat Sandy and good mate Grant Bedford cooked up was a pearler – Den Hanrahan, Mick Daley (The Re-mains) and a bloke I’d never seen live until Friday night, Jimmy Willing.
Jimmy, from Murwillumbah, was first up and I was keen to catch his set. He didn’t disappoint. Great voice … smoky, sultry and a great turn of phrase. His rendition of Chim Chiminee from Mary Poppins was extraordinary.
Then we had the gorgeous Mick Daley with some of his cool originals. Loved hearing the song he wrote about the accident the band had that left some of them with permanent injuries. Sounds macabre, but it was a healing song, I believe.
Den was up last and what do they reckon? Save the best? It’s hard to say, but he was in extremely fine form.
All three then combined for another set and we had some special guests – Wanita, Jeff “Gibbo” Gibson and John Krsulja. The night just kept on giving.
Thanks, Sandy, for having me. It was a beaut evening. Let’s hope there’s many more.
