Kathy Dodd and her partner, Wayne Smith, are the proud new owners of the historic Currabubula Pub and Cafe.
Established in 1838, the pub became available when homesickness forced the last owner to return to Western Australia.
Ms Dodd, a confessed “workaholic” who will continue in her role as Bidvest Tamworth general manager, has grand plans for the recently restored venue.
“I call it my unique piece of paradise,” she said. “The views are absolutely spectacular, it’s very family-friendly and it has a wonderful ambience.”
The pub features a restaurant, bar and cafe – serving a special blend of coffee made exclusively for the venue – and indoor seating for 130 people.
There is a new children’s playground, refurbished commercial kitchen for head chef Kresten Doak to work his magic, and plans are afoot to introduce accommodation.
Ms Dodd, whose daughter Regan runs the cafe and son Lachlan works in the bar when not at university, said she wanted the pub to be the village’s social hub.
“We want to not only accommodate our travellers who come from far and wide on the weekends, but also our locals,” she said.
“We’re looking forward to meeting new customers and old, and being part of the Currabubula community.”
