Thank God the ill-thought out, utterly unfair reforms to higher education and universities failed to pass the Senate. 

Let’s hope they are not only dead, but well and truly buried! 

But sadly I don’t think it is over yet. 

Worryingly, the vice chancellor of the University of Canberra, Stephen Parker, in a speech on Monday, December 1 said, “Wake up Australia if you want to preserve your children’s life chances. 

“Wake up senators – you know not what you are playing with.

“You are aiding and abetting a fraud on the electorate”. 

Remember the “no cuts to education” comment of Tony Abbott on election eve? 

With three children currently at university I have been extremely concerned about this issue, particularly when Parker states “these reforms are unfair to students and poorly designed policy. If they go through, Australia is sleepwalking towards the privatisation of its universities”. 

These savings measures are nothing more than an ideology in search of a problem. 

Essentially the Coalition is about selling the lot! 

Well no thanks!

Christopher Pyne is on some other planet when he states, referring to the failure of the legislation to pass the Senate “Great reform takes time”. 

Good grief ... poor policy takes time! 

I for one don’t want my children saddled with a lifetime of debt. 

How many of you have children, or grandchildren, with university aspirations?

You should all be as worried as I am. 

Let’s hope when Pyne reintroduces the bill next year, as he said

he will, it gets comprehensively squashed!
