I have an incredible number of relatives and friends living here in Tamworth, a lot of them farming families and all good, hardworking people.
I am also elderly and have known some hard times over my 70 years in Tamworth, but no doubt I am not alone on that score.
We also have a wonderful family comprising three children who were raised and schooled in Tamworth, plus grandchildren of whom we are extremely proud.
We recently wrote a letter to the editor talking up the beauty of Dungowan Valley and expressing the view that property values will not decline as a result of the dambreak study.
Since that letter was published, an anonymous response was published on the internet which I find amusing.
The response in part says that “Fay Jones owns an older style ‘weekender’ and is one of the 11 houses to be rebuilt by TRC. So of course she is not worried – a very good deal”.
We are fortunate to own several properties in the Dungowan Valley totalling 2400 acres.
We run a substantial number of sheep and cattle, grow garlic on a commercial scale and put in a lot of work maintaining the properties, stock and gardens.
We have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in sheds and machinery and our love of the valley can hardly be put in the “weekender” basket. It is very obvious who the author is and the motivation.
The Dungowan Valley is a magnificent area and extremely fertile.
The dam is a gem providing beautiful water to our fair city and we love it. The risk of it failing is assessed at one in one million years, so we continue to feel secure in owning and enjoying our small part of it.
The repetitious whinging and whining by a small number of residents about the Dungowan Dam issue is becoming a total bore.
Tamworth is a truly lovely city and we are all so lucky to be living here. We have a go-ahead council and for 70 years I have watched Tamworth grow from a little bush town into what it is today.
If you are not happy living in Tamworth or the surrounding district, please make my day – stop your whinging or pack your bags.
